EJ Pfister: From Touring to Teaching
EJ Pfister did what most sports instructors never were able to do: he played a satisfying professional career in the sport he loved, and followed up with an even more productive teaching career. He isn’t some old washed up high school player, bitter at his own failure to play profesionally, who is forced to live vicariously through his students. EJ Pfister is a man who loves golf and everything about it. He lives to be around the game, whether that means hitting balls against a net in his backyard, or instructing hallowed professionals on how to improve their game. He had a successful career playing, but now that time is over. Now, he understands that the greatest contribution to the sport he can make is by teaching other players to improve their game. Better players mean the overall quality of the sport is improved, and that’s something any golf lover should get behind.
After playing pro golf for thirteen years, EJ Pfister retired – but not from the game. He had always been a huge student of golf; as Scott McCarron said about EJ, “this guy looks at more videos than anyone, including the best players in the world – I mean, this guy is really on the ball.” Those are powerful words coming from a two-time PGA Tour winner, but EJ Pfister hasn’t let it get to his head.
As everyone knows, the most diligent students also make the best teachers. And since EJ Pfister was one – if not the most – of the most studious PGA Tour players ever, he has turned his retirement into a burgeoning teaching career. He has numerous instructional accolades – he has worked with some of the most famous golf instructors in the world, has appeared on the Golf Channel and in several instructional videos – but most importantly of all, EJ Pfister has a real passion for getting the best out of his students. He’ll teach professional and hobbyist alike, young and old, male and female; all that matters is that he be involved with improving the golf game of anyone and everyone who cares enough to seek instruction.
EJ Pfister, truly, is one of the best golf instructors teaching today.
