If you do have a chance to get personal instruction, do so – a good teacher will be able to analyze your form and give you pointers and direct instructions on how to correct it.

Now, random guys at the driving range probably don’t have teaching certifications, and they may not always be willing to help, but they’re free. They aren’t perfect, but they do a pretty good job of showing you – with detailed, step-by-step instructions – what a correct form looks like, what an incorrect form looks like, and how you can attain the one and avoid the other. An instruction video will typically include angled shots displaying swing planes, body placement, and swing forms. Realize that until we have interactive AI embedded in DVDs, you’re not going to get active instruction from the video. You can, however, take pictures or video of your swing and compare your form to the video teacher’s form. Be sure to go online and look for instructional material, perhaps as a supplement to the video. The tools are out there for any budding golfer to improve his or her game – you just have to look for them.
