Scott McCarron – PlaneTruthForGolfers.com

As a child, Scott McCarron was introduced to golf by his father. Both his father and grandfather instilled an incredible sense of humor in young Scott, a sense of humor and brevity that continues to this day and makes him one of the more liked players on the PGA Tour. Scott McCarron is a professional golfer who went to UCLA for school and for golf, and who upon golfing in school became disillusioned with the game. Indeed, after school, instead of going into professional golfing, McCarron started a golf clothing company with his father named Competitor Golf. The results of the business were mixed, and, after watching a golf tournament one day, he got the urge to pick the clubs back up. He went full tilt and threw himself back into the game.

McCarron joined any tournament he could find. He tried the California and Golden State tours, and then moved on to the Hooters and Canada tours. He even traveled overseas to check out the Asian tournaments. Though he didn’t qualify in Asia, he did gain a lot of real world knowledge that he simply would not have received without travel.

It wasn’t until 1995 that Scott McCarron finally joined the PGA tour. After spending some time with a sports psychologist, he finally took the plunge. The psychologist, named Glen Albaugh, convinced McCarron to stop focusing and fretting so much over his swing. While the swing is crucial in golf, obsessing over it so much that it affects your game negatively is to be avoided. Since then, he’s had some pretty good success, including an early win in the 1996 Freeport-McDermott Classic. After that win, he got a cool, ungracious reception from Johnny Miller, the announcer. True to his good humor, however, he didn’t let it get to him. He was a young guy and he knew he needed to earn respect.

And respect he has earned. Eventually, he began to worry about his swing again. Avoiding the problem wouldn’t do him any good, so he linked up with Jim Hardy, the promoter of the one plane swing – which did him a whole lot of good. Looking forward, Scott McCarron hopes to continue to improve his game.
